Yutha Satham Movie Review
Director Ezhil has proved his ability to deliver success in different genres in two decades with feel-good love stories between the late 90s and early 20s followed by commercially successful comedy capers. The director now steps into a new domain of mystery-thriller with Yutha Satham. The movie features Radhakrishnan Parthiban and Gautham Karthik in the lead roles.
The film opens with a young girl (Sai Priya Deva) brutally found murdered inside the premise of a police station. Nakulan (Gautham Karthik), her boyfriend and a private detective is shocked over this gruesome death, and so is Inspector Kathiravelan (Radhakrishnan Parthiban). Both decide to investigate the case on their terms and finally zero in a new kind of dope called ‘War Decibel’, where the victims aren’t injected or inhale drugs, but just by listening to binaural music. When the protagonists finally decide to unravel the mystery and get near the culprits, they are exposed to harsh truth, they never expected.
Writer Rajesh Kumar has been a pride of Tamil land for his successful crime novels. He has always kept his fans in awe over new-fangled elements through his genre of novels. Director Ezhil deserves special mention for adapting this novel and attempting to materialize it. When it’s author-backed roles, half the jobs of actors are done. In this aspect, Parthiban and Gautham Karthik get a great scope after a long time to perform. However, director Ezhil tries to insert the humour elements through the signature dialogues of Parthiban and Robo Shankar. It works out to a certain extent, but after some time, we are irked by Robo Shankar’s gaudy hilarious spell. Gautham Karthik hasn’t done anything special here, but compared to his previous movies, his presence is appreciable. The other actors don’t register much for there is no scope for them.
Since the story premise revolves around the concept of ‘Sound’, D Imman has done his next to show his involvement. The songs don’t work out the best results for the music director, but his re-recording and sound elements are good.
The first half of this film looks engrossing for the suspense and surprise elements keep elevating our expectations. However, the screenwriting turns out to be fallible during the second half. If the film was made with top-notch technical works, and good making, it would have been a first-of-its-kind thriller in the Tamil industry.
