Thangalaan Movie Review
Pa. Ranjith has never misses stepping out from creating movies that speaks about the humanity and the regressive imperialism. With this film Thangalaan, he comes up experimenting with a different genre where fantasy and adventure gets a great prominence.
Set in the ancient times, the film revolves around the inception of Gold Treasure Hunt that later became the origin of KGF. The film opens with a suppressed community of people working in the fields of landlords. One among them is the protagonist (played Chiyaan Vikram), who embarks on a journey along with his men and family in accordance to the British ruler to excavate the gold.
However their entire journey is tested with challenges and hardships including hallucinations and accidental deaths, all created by an illusionary soul names Aarathi (Malavika Mohanan).
The first half is totally gripping. Initially, it takes time for the audiences to settle down, but once the journey begins, it keeps us engrossed. Initially, the hallucination scenes gives an appealing impact, But sooner, when they get repeated, we might start feeling tiresome. If Pa Ranjith had managed to tweak and trim the length in second half, the film would have been more engrossing.
Chiyaan Vikram uplifts the entire movie with his excellent performance. His swag walk in two different time periods and the reason justfying it during the climax is nice. Parvathy and Malavika Mohanan are good. Pasupathy character needs special mention.
GV Prakash is the real winner and man of the match as his BGM is so excellent that it enhances the visual significance throughout the film.
The dialogues now and then wins applause as Pa. Ranjith tries to exhibit his ideologies.
A humble request to filmmakers. When they are planning to make such unusually great and exceptional movies, it is advisable that they make sure that the audiences are prepared with the proper idea about the film.
Overall, Thangalaan is a commendable movie that needs to be watched patiently to understand it’s premise.
