Sabdham Movie Review

Director Arivazhagan and actor Aadhi together delivered a mind-blowing supernatural thriller ‘Eeram’ nearly 15 years ago. The film remains to be fresh masterpiece and a trendsetter in the genre of horror. They’re back with ‘Sabdham’, another horror flick, based on a new concept. While Eeram dealt with ‘Water’ as the supernatural element, Arivazhagan brings in ‘Sound’ as the spooky factor here.

Set against a college backdrop in Munaar, the story revolves around death of three students, which becomes a sensitive topic in the neighbourhood. The college dean, to make sure that the issue is settled down ropes in a paranormal investigator from Mumbai (Aadhi). As he steps into the picture, he starts witnessing paranormal activities in the form of sound, and sooner comes across a shocking revelation and the reason behind all these mysterious deaths.

‘Eeram’ becomes an inevitable comparison here, while analysing this film ‘Sabdham’, because arivazhagan had come up with something fresh and gripping, which makes it one of the best and finest films in Indian film industry till the date. Significantly, while analysing ‘Sabdham’, we are totally disappointed as the film doesn’t engross us in many places. The sole reason is the lack of emotional essence, and the storyline, which might not be an engaging one. Technically, the team has done a remarkable work, especially the cinematography and sound department make a finest impact, offering an eerie ambience.

The flashback sequences aren’t convincingly done, and it is so out of the world, where audience don’t feel getting connected.

Thaman’s songs and BGM doesn’t work out. Sound and Visuals are the only plus.

When it comes to acting, Aadhi gives a commendable job with his performance. He has given his best into the role, and the actors don’t have much to perform. Lakshmi Menon is just okay. Simran’s role is too limited. It’s disappointing to see Laila not getting a proper role in the Tamil industry, despite having a greater potential.

On the whole, ‘Sabdham’ offers a technically brilliant experience, but lacks a proper screenplay with lack of twists and turns, and the main plot itself is unconvincing.
