Rocket Driver Movie Review

Director Sriram Ananthashankar’s ‘Rocket Driver’ had significantly raised everyone’s eyebrows with the newfangled and innovative gist. The visual promos furthermore enhanced the expectations on the film among the cinephiles, who were exhilarated to check out how well the idea has been materialized as a full-length movie.

The story revolves around an ordinary youngster with an extraordinary dream. Protagonist Prabha (Visvath) aspires to become an iconic emblem like APJ Abdul Kalam, but doesn’t get to meet those dreams. He takes up the job of an autorickshaw driver, only to complain each and everything in his day-to-day life, until he comes as a young passenger, who introduces himself as APJ Abdul Kalam from Rameshwaram. What unfolds next is a series of fun and emotional ride that is interesting in parts.

Before taking off with the analysis, we have to appreciate the writers Sriram, Akshay and Prashanth for coming up with a brilliant storyline. APJ Abdul Kalam revisiting the planet is something literally exciting, and with an underdog protagonist, whose characters resonate very well with most of the contemporary youngsters, it’s more exciting to watch the entire film. Naga Vishal as APJ Abdul Kalam is the most intriguing attraction in this movie. He has done a remarkable job, and his makeover needs special mention.

When it comes to the narrative, the film works out very well in few hilarious and emotional scenes. Especially the humorous situations placed among the Visvath, Naga Vishal and Kaathadi Ramamoorthy are fun-filled. The film’s emotional quotients in the second too needs special mention. All the actors including Sunainaa and Durai Ramachandran have done what is required for the role.

So, when it comes to looking into the flip side, the story is so interesting and captivating, but as a feel of short film. Yes, there’s nothing wrong making it as a full-length feature movie, but the basic problem comes with the screenwriting. If the screenplay was crafted more engrossing by coming up with few more engaging scenes, and elevating the scope of supporting characters, the film would have really turned to be a wholesome entertainer.

As with the technical department, it’s a decent work by everyone, but in particular, what steals our attention is music director Kaushik’s score in both songs and BGM. A special mention to the song ‘Avarum Sethuttaara’, which gets a perfect visual output.

On the whole, ‘Rocket Driver’ is a good attempt by the young team, and can be watched by group of audiences, who always crave for a different cinematic experience.
