Rekka’ movie basic storyline is similar to that of Vijay’s ’Ghilli’ and ‘Shajahan’. Hero is one who supports love marriage, there comes a situation wherein he is compelled to kidnap a girl for villain and the rest of the film revolves around this threat. There is a flashback which shows why he does this and why he wishes lovers to get unite.
Vijay Sethupathi’s 6th release this year, he is having a dream run in 2016. After few failed commercial attempts this time he hits the bulls eye. Tailor made role for him, though the scope is not much; he has given a completely natural performance, flawless acting. Looking forward for many more films next year.
Lakshmi Menon as ‘Bharathi’, Too much of makeup spoils her look. But her performance is good. Costumes are not so impressive. Kishore as Dr.Selvam, he is one of the finest performer. Along with him, One more character which steals the show is ‘Mala’, a very good find for that role. Kishore and ‘Bala’ portions are biggest strength of the film.
K S Ravikumar as Vijay Sethupathi’s cool dad, its a cake walk role for him and he did it with ease. Sathish has nothing much to do. Film has two villains – Harish Uthaman and ‘Vedhalam’ Kabir Duhan Singh, Kabir looks super fit. Both did justice to their respective roles.
Music is composed by D.Imman. Unfortunately songs are not catchy. Intro song ‘Virr Virr’, Shreya Ghoshal’s melody song ’Kanna Kaatu Pothum’ and post interval first song ‘Pollapaiyya’ are misplaced. Only nice song is the ‘Kannama’ which comes during the flashback portion. ‘Kannamma’ song BGM is lovely.
Apt Cinematography by Dinesh Krishnan. Praveen K L’s Editing is perfect. Stunt choreography should have been better.Overdose of action sequence is definitely a spoiler. Song placement is another issue. Also the song choreography is not satisfying. 2 hrs 15 mins duration is a plus.
Directed by Rathina Siva, He used his name for the dad-son in the film. K S Ravikumar’s character name is ‘Rathinam’ and Vijay Sethupathi’s character is ‘Siva’. He is very clear in what he want to deliver. Film is a complete commercial package with mix of fights, songs, emotions, romance and comedy with a thin story line. Screenplay is interesting and dialogues are pretty good.
Major highlight of the movie is the Flashback portion which comes in the second half. K S R – Vijay Sethupathi scenes have been crafted well. Fights and songs are on the negative side, especially climax and interval fight sequences. The film turns out to be a time pass entertainer due to the clever screenplay.
