Raja Kili Movie Review
Tamil film industry and of course, any other regional industries have often witnessed the scenario, where father would direct a movie featuring his son in the lead role, so as to help him find a stature in the industry. Raja Kili is a vice-verse situation, where son Umapathy has directed his father Thambi Ramaiah, playing the lead character.
The story is loosely based on a murder case involving a topmost entrepreneur in Tamil Nadu. Thambi Ramaiah plays the lead role of a successful businessman named Murugappa Chendraayan, who is good in heart, but has a weakness towards the women. Despite getting married twice, he gets attracted towards a young girl, and she reciprocates in his favour as well. After being in an illicit relationship, she gets married to another man. Few days after marriage, she approaches Murugappa that her husband is torturing and abusing her often. On an emotional bonding, Murugappa seeks the help of few men and kills Albert, and is later handcuffed for the criminal offence of murder. What unfolds next is narrated on an emotional note.
The first half has very tedious moments as the director Umapathy seems to have focussed on more catering the tastes of B and C audiences with double entendres and glamorous quotients. The second half is where the actual story and content gets more scope. Thambi Ramaiah has the lead character has done complete justice to his role. He has delivered a compelling performance in the movie. Swetha as the college girl has nothing to do other than attempting to oomph up the glam factors. Samuthirakani as usual gets a role that is tailor-made for him, especially his advice in climax is something that we always used to, and this one is not an exception.
Thambi Ramaiah has composed music for the film, and a couple of songs are good indeed. Cinematography is done with perfection of what is required for the film.
All the characters are neatly crafted, and the actors have done a good job.
On the whole, this film based on the real life incident of a crucial case that shook Tamil Nadu few years ago, owns a content that could have been made with more riveting moments, but director Umapathy has chosen a commercial and simple way to entertain B and C audiences.

Summary
Verdict: The Basic Plot is Gripping, but narrative is just mediocre.
