Petta Rap Movie Review

Ever since the announcement of Petta Rap was done, the expectations have been pretty bigger.

The film revolves around a young boy, who adores his matinee idol hero Prabhu Deva. Years later, he is grown up and is seen exactly as Prabhu Deva. The film revolves around a series of unprecedented events, when he clashes with a local goon.

Prabhu Deva carries the entire film on his shoulders with the grace of a seasoned performer. True to form, he ignites the dance sequences with his signature flair while seamlessly blending in action elements. The occasional witty body language and vocal modulations elicit laughter in select moments, yet in other instances, they test our patience…

In emotionally charged scenes, Vedhika delivers the necessary depth, complementing the choreography with her remarkable contributions. Shahjahan, as ‘Kalabhavan’, makes a striking impression in the opening scene. The ensemble cast, including Vivek Prasanna, Bhagavathi Perumal, and Ramesh Thilak, enters with a promise to keep the audience from laughing, and they triumphantly etch ‘Sabha Queue’ into our memories! Jayaprakash, Riyas Khan, Mime Gopi, and Rajeev Pillai also add their unique charm to the narrative.

The cinematography by Jithu Damodhar exudes a brilliance and vibrancy that elevates each scene to a new level of visual splendor. While Nishad Yusuf’s editing contributes to the narrative’s initial allure, it soon falls into a repetitive cycle of similar editing techniques that detracts from the overall experience. As for the music by D. Imman, one cannot help but ponder the multitude of songs that have graced the film, yet before one can fully appreciate them, the film reaches its conclusion. His lively background score captivates in select moments, leaving a lingering impression amidst the cinematic journey.

The biggest question is that how come the film’s protagonist and his role model character (both played by Prabhu Deva) are look alike.

On the whole, Petta Rap has so many plots laced together, and it fails from capturing our interest.
