Pechi Movie Review

It’s very that we come across horror tales laced with folklore impact, and Pechi has taken the road less travelled in Tamil cinema. In the recent times, the genre of ‘Horror’ has lost its value due to the blend of gaudy humour and masala ingredients. Very few movies like Eeram, and Yaavarum Nalam, have adored the beauty of genre, by doing justice. Well, Pechi isn’t the one that touches those pinnacles achieved by these referred movies, but still, the attempt is commendable.

As the visual promos have indicated, the film revolves around a bunch of trekkers, who embark on an adventurous trip to a mysterious mountainous forest region. They are guided by a local guide (Bala Saravanan). Despite his warning not to walk into the restricted path, the notorious boisterous gang breaks the barricade and walks in, only to witness the worst nightmares. Will they be able to save themselves from the mysterious paranormal encounters and rush out of the forest or succumb to fate forms the crux of this story.

The initial moments of the film might be a little sluggish, as audiences might not be interested in investing their time watching a bunch of fresh faces except Gayathrie and Bala Saravanan. But as the story approaches the pre-interval phase, an uncalled-for Jump scare draws you into the premise. Post-Interval, there are 2-3 jump scare moments that excite and shudder you.

Yes, the screenplay could have been much more riveting in few places, and the climax could have been yet more convincing.

But still, the team has managed to deliver a decent product made at a shoestring budget. Special mention to BGM, and Sound.

Not to miss the fact that this is a unique horror tale as it has been filmed completely during the daytime, which might surprise you in a few places.
