Over the years, love stories based on Hindu-Muslim and other communal groups resulting in hurdles and barriers, sometimes with gruesome ends have been witnessed over the screens. Especially with the films that come from God’s own country, we have seen plenty, which includes ‘Thattathin Marayathu’, which became a major trendsetting film of Mollywood. The film getting translated into Tamil by filmmaker Jawahar Mithran (Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Kutty, Uthama Puthiran fame) starring Walter Philips and Isha Talwar in lead roles is about a love story set in the backdrops of same premise.
A handsome and loveable chap (Walter Philips) falls in love with a much graceful and beauteous Muslim girl (Isha Talwar). Both of them develop an unconditional love for each other, but their relationship is at stake, when their families oppose and create the havoc. Now as they decide to run away from their places and begin a new life, things become worsened up in an unexpected way. Will they be able to overcome the hurdles or succumb to fate forms crux of the story?
To start off with the analysis, what primarily strike our minds as we watch the film is the star-cast, especially lead actor – Walter Philips and Isha Talwar. Walter Philips looks very experienced with his matured performance and he completely gets under the skin of being innocuous, polite, sweet, romantic and emotional person. Although, we are familiar with Isha Talwar, she looks really something fresh and new with her role. Thalaivasal Vijay who plays the role of Isha Talwar’s father and Nasser essaying the role of her uncle have done decorous performances. Arjunan, Vidhyulekha and Divya have done their roles with perfection and Manoj K Jayan as a police officer and the person helping the lovers get united is groovy.
Musical score by GV Prakash is one of the greatest plus in this movie and cinematography too is excellent. On the flip side, the film has slow paced narration, which might not be a favourite cup of coffee for ‘Thriller’ lovers. If you’re someone expecting raciness, this isn’t the film to opt for. This is purely a fresh and sweet poetic romance. Although, the film is based on the theme of love story between Muslim and Hindu, director Jawahar Mithran has very well focused upon the lively and emotional moments, rather than looking into the controversial grounds.
Overall, ‘Meendum Oru Kadhal Kadhai’ has been very well remade with right justice and proper crafting to the original version. The film will get ticked up with good reception among the young groups.
