Mazhaiyil Nanaigiren Movie Review

Director Suresh Kumar has crafted and created a love story titled ‘Mazhaiyil Nanaigiren’, starring Anson Paul and Reba Monica John in the lead roles. Tamil Cinema that has often banked its success on mass heroes, has sometimes, witnessed the surprise arrival of love stories with simple plots and yet delivering a successful result. On the other end, most of the love stories majorly revolve around a boy and girl from different religion falling in love.

Mazhaiyil Nanaigiren makes no difference as the story is about a young jobless man from an affluent Christian family (Anson Paul) falling in love with a Brahmin girl (Reba Monica John). Initially, she isn’t willing to be in relationship, but somehow Anson manages to win her love. Initially, they face resentments from their parents, but when they decide to get them hitched, a shocking incident occurs.

First and foremost, a big doubt sparks off on seeing the characterisation of Anson Paul. Times have changed and still, we find the heroes in the romantic films as a jobless wayward. On the other hand, the routine style of religious issues standing as a barricade in relationships is yet another cliche. The entire film travels on the same plane, and the only surprise is the penultimate to climax moments, where something totally uncalled-for arrives.

Love films majorly banks upon good songs, but this film lacks it to the core. However, music director Vishnu Prasad has tried delivering some impressive background score.
The supporting actors – Mathew Varghese and Anupama Kumar as Anson Paul’s parents have given a good performance, and so is actor Raja as Reba’s father. These actors have emoted very well, and win our attention.

On the whole, ‘Mazhaiyil Nanaigiren’ lacks the proper emotions and flavour that a love story has to own. Except for the climax, the film has nothing special to be acclaimed for. Director Suresh Kumar has to bounce back with a good script, and give a nice try next time.
