Story/Plot :
Manjapai is centered around the relationship between Venkatasamy and his grandson Tamil. “Thondhi Badava” and “Kunju Naina” is how both call each other respectively. Tamil loses his parents in the childhood and grows up under the shadow of Venkatasamy. He becomes a successful IT professional in Chennai and falls in love with Karthika. But Venkatasamy’s stay in his house creates few serious problems and affects his career. The series of issues between Tamil, Karthika and Venkatasamy is the main focus of Manjapai.
Character/Acting :
Vimal as Tamil – Vimal has nothing new to offer as usual and continues with his stone faced reactions and dialogue delivery. He is undoubtedly the ‘best’ hero in Kollywood who has the ‘ability’ to react in the same manner for all situations and against all the characters.
Lakshmi Menon As Karthika – Lakshmi Menon has got more opportunity to act and occupies many scenes. But could not deliver much.
Rajkiran as Venkatasamy – He is the saviour of the whole movie from failure state brilliant performance one of the best role in his carrier.
Technical Aspects :
Music by N. R. Raghunanthan - lacklustre BGM work, ‘Aagasa Nilavu’, The breezy title song and the peppy number ‘Paathu Paathu’ are notable.
Cinematography by Masani – routine commercial work.
Editing by Deva – Decent work.
Direction:
Director Raghavan – He has tried something special with the story but screenplay spoils it. Manjapai passed to evoke the emotional moments in some parts.
Overall Effectiveness Of The Film:Â
Manja Pai – The climax touches the heart but does not last long because of the half baked works done before that.
Plus – Rajkiran Scenes, Climax, Few Songs.
Minus – Vimal (It is very hard to digest the role of Vimal as a software professional), screenplay lacks, BGM
