Filmmaker Vetrimaaran is far-famed for being involved in the release of some unconventional movies, which have already gained international recognitions. His latest release ‘Lens’, directed by Jayaprakash Narayanan focuses upon the shocking truth involved in the dark side of cyber crime.
The newly married couple played by Anand Saamy, who happens to be an orphan and a speech impaired Aswathi Lal are indulged in intimate moments, it gets captured through a spy camera planted by an anonymous plumber inside their bedroom. This video gets into the hands of a voyeuristic man (Jayaprakash Narayanan), who uploads the video on internet. This leads to the gruesome suicide of Aswathi and her father. Much broken down by these incidents, the protagonist sets out to seek revenge upon the miscreant responsible for this cause.
First and foremost, director Jayaprakash Narayanan deserves special mentioning for coming up with a bold yet commendable theme, which could be shocking to many as well enlightening for audiences that can help themselves refrain from indulging in sensual or even ordinary chats with strangers. Getting on with the narrative structure of the film, the first hour hardly moves out couple of rooms. But the second hour moves through some flashback moments followed by the Munaar episodes that are really presented well. Especially, special regards to cinematographer SR Kathir, who scores brownie points with his visuals. Editing too has been aptly done that helps the screenplay to proceed with right momentum. Background score and songs by GV Prakash are convincingly done.
Jayaprakash Narayanan, Anand Saamy and Aswathi Lal offer their nuance performances Misha Ghoshal enacting the role of Jayaprakash wife make the best of her acting. Ambeth and Parameswaran appearing as police officers do proper justice to their characterizations. Sanjeevi and Radhakrishnan take sleep walk through their roles.
To tot up with the major highlighting element, it’s the basic premise of the story that is quite shocking and at the same erects awareness. The performance of actors too takes a strong contribution towards the film’s escalation.
