Kozhipannai Chelladurai Movie Review

Director Seenu Ramasamy’s movies Neer Paravai and Dharmadurai have been a well validated films among the film enthusiasts. The director has distinctly showcased his craftsmanship of narrating stories that are simple, but emotional to the core.

Kozhipannai Chelladurai marks the debut of actor Aegan, who plays an ordinary youngster in a rural land. With his parents deserting them into deplorable condition, he raises his younger sister with so much and affection. The entire film traverses through his life, and the characters that surround him.

As cited above, Seenu Ramasamy films never delve into complexities, but instead, deals with the human emotions. The first half of the film takes it time to establish the premise and characters. Well, it might slightly show up sluggish in places, but the visuals and locations of those unpolluted lands and few interesting characters keeps us glued. The actual story begins by the second half, where the brother-sister bonding, the couple’s love, human bonding, reconciliation and a good ending lets us embrace the film wholeheartedly.

Yes, there are few drawbacks in the film, which comes with director Seenu Ramasamy’s carelessness in casting, especially, the aged parents of protagonist (Riaz and Aishwarya Dutta) look so unrealistic. The director has to pull up his socks in this arena, and make some good casting from his next film. The song ‘Devathaiya’ featuring the issues of transgenders is an unwanted element in this film, and deleting this would have made the first half crisp.

Musical score by N.R. Raghunandan is a commendable highlight. He has worked hard to showcase his proficiency in many places.

As with performances of actors, Aegan doesn’t display any signs of a newcomer. He looks like a well-trained and experienced actor. His ability to emote naturally in many places, and give more life to his character of ‘Chelladurai’ is appreciable. The actress playing his sister’s character is good. Yogi Babu essays a non-comedic role, and gains our attention. Brigada is good with her acting.

Overall, Kozhi Pannai Chelladurai is a simple tale that has good performances from the lead actors. NR Raghunandan’s BGM and songs are additional strength.
