Kanguva Movie Review

Director Siva’s ‘Kanguva’ starring Suriya in the lead role, has an ensemble star-cast including Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, and few more actors. The film is produced by K.E. Gnanavel Raja and has musical score by Devi Sri Prasad.

The story is set in two different time backdrops of 1070 A.D. & 2024 A.D, where it revolves around the protagonist’s (Suriya) bond with a little boy, and how he protects the latter from the evil beings.

Suriya’s effort as usual goes in vain. To be precise, he does nothing special in this movie other than screaming. Director Siva’s poor writing continues after Annathey and Vivegam continues. His screenplay is too outdated and dialogues are nothing but cringe max.

The basic problem with Tamil film industry in the recent times is that the producers and directors have started eying for Telugu audiences, especially with ‘Baahubali’ blueprint. In this aspect of adding the Telugu ingredients, they fail to impress the Tamil audiences. Kanguva has touched the pinnacle of this bad example, where audiences are irked from the initial moments. The modern day portions involving Suriya and Disha Patani doesn’t evoke any interest. The period portions are yet another boredom, where all the characters keep yelling, and we can’t even hear properly, what they are trying to speak.

Suriya as in Singam franchise, keeps up his ferocious tone, and Bobby Deol adds no impact. We are literally confused to see what’s Disha Patani doing here. All the characters go unnoticed, and those who get noticed do nothing, but ‘SCREAMING’.

Technically, the film hits the bottom of mediocrity. The production house could have at least focussed on bringing some finest technicians. DSP’s songs are totally mess, and cinematography are nothing but a bunch of filters. VFX is a total disappointment, where they purposely use unwanted amateurish elements.
