Kadhalikka Neramillai Movie Review

Filmmaker Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi’s Kadhalikka Neramillai stars Jayam Ravi and Nithya Menen in the lead roles with Lal, Yogi Babu, Vinay Rai and few other known actors in prominent characters. A.R. Rahman is composing music and Gavemic U Ary is handling cinematography.

The story revolves around a young man Sid (Jayam Ravi), who always prefers a marriage without kids, which lets his girlfriend break up with him on the day of engagement. And then, Shreya (Nithya Menon), who gets a baby with IVF without getting married. With both having a heartbreak with their partners, they cross paths, and how they get connected forms the crux of this story.

Kiruthiga Udayanidhi has crafted this story with an elite touch, and maybe with a futuristic prospect. Of course, the storyline is so unique and something that we haven’t come across in Tamil industry except for few references like Dharala Prabhu, Mr & Mrs Polishetty in Telugu. Both the lead actors Jayam Ravi and Nithya Menon have done their roles perfectly. But their character portrayal remains unjustified. Why does the protagonist doesn’t want to have kids, and the girl being so obsessive about an artificial means of having child. Yes, we have a doctor’s statement that there is a cyst in her ovaries, which might be a barricade, but still, we don’t have a substantial reason to connect with these characters emotionally. Besides, Vinay being wasted with a minimal importance is disappointing. Yogi Babu is a mismatch to the tale, and it’s evident that he has been included for nothing but a commercial purpose. TJ Bhanu looks perfect for her role, but even her character gets reduced to nothing in the second half.

AR Rahman’s BGM works a lot to enhance the visuals captured by cinematographer Gavemic. Most of the songs are montages, and they don’t instantly capture our attention, but BGM, especially during the pre-climax portion is extremely done well.

Overall, a great appreciation to Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi for coming up with a story that looks almost relevant to the present generation, but she fails to engage us emotionally with the characters and a flimsy screenplay.

Verdict: Good plot hampered by a not so-engaging presentation
