Kadaisi Vivasayi Movie Review

Filmmaker Manikandan, the creator of realistic story premises is worthy to be ennobled as the crown jewel of Tamil cinema. He is the only filmmaker, who doesn’t encash the pathos and touches of the melancholy of a particular character or group, but instead presents them in a natural way. His erstwhile movies have been an ample exemplification of our statement. Kadaisi Vivasayi which was supposed to have its release a long time is all set for worldwide theatrical release this Friday (February 11, 2022). Let us check out how well the movie is crafted and presented by filmmaker Manikandan, who has handled the story, screenplay, dialogues, direction, cinematography, costumes, and production.

Set in remote village backdrops near Usilampatti, which has alienated itself from the urbanization (West-Toxication), the villagers are deeply ruined by the dearth of rainfall for years. They decide to honor the divine deity in their village with a belief that it would bring heavy downpour. However, they need Paddy crops to offer to the deity during this festival of prayer, but unfortunately, the village runs short of farmers. They somehow manage to get the last farmer in the village Maayaandi (Nallaandi), an aged person, who assures them to cultivate them, but he faces some upheavals during the process. Do the villagers get what they are looking for? This forms the crux of this story.

The best thing about director Manikandan is his clarity. He never endorses the pathos to gain the sympathy; attention and support of audiences like many filmmakers in K-Town opt for. Apparently, this has made him an admirable moviemaker of our region, who if encouraged properly by the producers will definitely bring honors to Tamil cinema. Okay! What’s the cherry-pick of this movie? He has done a fabulous job with his writing, narration, and strong characterizations. He completely avoided unwanted elements, which makes the show watchable though a few portions look slightly sluggish and dragging. Late actor Nallaandi has done a colossal work as a farmer, which was his real-life characterization indeed. Vijay Sethupathi’s portion is short, crisp, and beautifully written. Watch out for his conversation with a God-man, which is going to be a trending video on social media. Rachael Rebecca as Mangaiyakarasi has done a good job. Initially, her character as a judge looks like a supporting character, but it gradually gains more intensity as the story progresses. The only minus in the movie is Santhosh Narayanan. It looks like has developed an ego that he can compose any music for any regional backdrop. He has to pull up his socks, to avoid this mediocre stuff for he is worthy of delivering good music.

On whole, Kadaisi Vivasayi holds our attention thoroughly. It doesn’t preach or aggrandize on farming Vs corporate but instead commutes us to a village, where we come across a few characters that stay in our hearts even after the show is over.
