KAAKI SATTAI – Another cop story in Kollywood’s library. Movie is all about, how a honest cop/constable proves his skills by solving a critical case. Story is simple, but the making is engaging. Director utilizes Shivakartikeyan’s strength to lift the movie and succeeded to a major extend.
Sivakarthikeyan as cop (casual costume constable) Mathimaran, he steps out from his comfort zone and did 100% justice to the role. He emotes and dances well.Good dialogue delivery. Awesome screen presence. In many places its clearly visible that he copies Vijay’s mannerisms. Undoubtedly Siva delivers a good show.
Sri Divya, the lucky charm is a real treat to eyes. She has scope to perform in first half and she did her part with ease. In second half unfortunately she gets only 3-4 scenes. Her dance for ‘Kattikada’ folk song is superb. Director could have used her more in second half. Kalpana as Siva’s mom shows that she can perform well like her sister Urvasi.
Prabhu delivers yet another wonderful performance, the scene where he explains to Siva about a cops situation in real life was clap worthy. Imman Annachi for comedy, he did his part well. His one liners are good. Second half brings Manobala and Mayilsamy into picture. Manobala scenes are yawn. Villain Vijay Raaz looks fresh and performed well.
Anirudh’s music boost the film to next level. Commendable and settled BGM throughout the film. Highlights are the interval rain fight sequence and the pre-climax railway station followed by the chase scene bgm’s. All songs are choreographed beautifully. Both lead actors danced well. First half has 3 songs and second half with 2 songs.
Technically the movie is good with very good cinematography by Sukumar. Camera angles and color tone he used are superb. His agmark top angle shots are cool. Editing and VFX could have been better. Dialogues by Pattukottai Prabhakar are sharp and nice. Costumes selection is apt. Art work is noteworthy.
Dir.Durai Senthil kumar’s second venture after ‘Ethirneechal’. Old wine in new bottle. Film has nothing new in the story, but the presentation is brilliant. He gives an engaging screenplay. Durai knows the strength of Sivakarthikeyan and he used it to the maximum level. Thankfully no overdose action sequence or irritating punch dialogues. He gives a time pass film.
Movie has a proper mix of action, romance, sentiment and comedy. First half of the film is more fun while second half is little serious. Overall its a Decent Entertainer worth for your penny. Movie has all elements to entertain – A,B and C class audiences. Producer Dhanush will be a happy man.
