Iravin Nizhal Movie Review

Filmmaker-actor Radhakrishnan Parthiban is far-famed for making movies based on unique stories and contents. He has never missed to steal the spotlight with his stories, which has been evident with films like Kadhai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam and Oththa Seruppu. This movie, being promoted as ‘World’s First-Ever Non-Linear Movie’ kept everyone glued to incisive inquisitiveness.

The story revolves around Nandhu (Radhakrishnan Parthiban), a financier, who undergoes severe guilt during the pursuit of a rival, who he wants to kill before cops catch him red-handed. As we get curious about what actually erstwhile incidents, the protagonist reveals about his dark past of what actually shaped him up as a bad person as many perceive him.

There are few movies that get beyond the analysis and reviews, and Iravin Nizhal is one such movie that needs special appreciation for the vision and enthusiastic approach of Radhakrishnan Parthiban in materialising it. A non-linear storytelling is a pretty complicated task, and how about making it as a single-shot film. It definitely needs lots of emotional investment, high-level preparations, and plethora of brainstorming sessions. Of course, we get to see all these moments during the first half of this movie, where Radhakrishnan Parthiban smartly uses it as a technique to pull audiences into the premise. The actual movie begins during post-interval with a running length of 95 minutes approximately.

The actors and the technicians have contributed an immense part towards the best quality of this movie. In particular, it’s cinematography team that deserves the ultimate acclaims. Be it gimbal operators or focus pullers, they are impeccable and outstanding. The actors on their part have done a decent role. Especially, to see an ordinary artiste like Brigada deliver a brilliant performance is colossal. The other actors have given their best into the movie. Radhakrishnan Parthiban’s character is more like a narrator, and he had followed a similar pattern in one of his previous directorial Kadhai Thiraikadhai Vasanam Iyakkam. However, audience have some light moments to laugh out loud with his signature styled performance and dialogue deliveries in one particular scene. It is advisable, he bounces back with a similar role, which will be make the favourite entertainer of the universal crowds. AR Rahman’s musical score is the biggest asset to this movie.

To be honest, there are few dull moments in this movie, where our attention might get scattered, but the galvanising musical score of AR Rahman keeps us glued to the screens, especially the Kaayam song in the title credits. There were decent anticipations for the song ‘Kannaethire’, but the way, it is visualised is slightly disappointed…

Now getting on with the minuses, we get to see that Parthiban has tried conveying a good story, but it doesn’t appeal instantly to our attention, purely because of the single shot technology. Being a great filmmaker, he could have made this one as a normal story, and still, he could have earned the appreciations. Precisely, his previous movie Oththa Seruppu had lots of outstanding package, where he had scored brownie points in both narrative and technical aspects. In contrast, Iravin Nizhal gets vague during the mid-process of balancing between the narrative and technical domains.

However, Radhakrishnan Parthiban deserves special mention for his unique attempt, but if he had materialised it in a better man, this would have yet more engrossing.
