Gargi Movie Review

Actress Sai Pallavi’s Gargi, directed by Gautham Ramachandran, found a decorous reach during its pre-release phase with Suriya and Jyotika of 2D Entertainment releasing it. The visual promos of this movie assured us of an impactful experience, and let us check out how well our expectations are fulfilled.
`
Gargi (Sai Pallavi) has a peaceful and happy life until her father Brahmandham (RS Shivaji) is handcuffed by police for raping a 9-yr old girl at an apartment, where he works as a security guard. While all the pieces of evidence including the victim’s statement push him behind the bars, Gargi teams up with a novice lawyer (Kaali Venkat) to fight and prove her father’s innocence.

Although one might not find any notations marked ‘Based on True Story’ during the title or final credits, we can clearly understand it is inspired by a shocking gruesome incident that happened in Chennai a few years ago. The slew of releases, based on similar concepts is frequently visiting the theaters. However, Gargi deserves special mention for its presentation. Lots of efforts have gone into writing, and it doesn’t look like overnight work, but a long meditative process. Special appreciation to the writers Hariharan Raju and Gautham Ramachandran. The latter directed the movie with perfect pre-planning, which is evident in the shot compositions. The characterization of ‘Gargi’ is stunning and Sai Pallavi has delivered a soulful and intense performance. Well, a woman’s struggle to save her loved ones has been a time-worn concept, and we have seen a lot of movies based on these themes. But Gargi is one step ahead, for the way, this protagonist’s character is written. Not to miss the prominence of other characters including Kaali Venkat, Jayaprakash, and even an actor performing the transgender judge, everyone has done a remarkable job. Aishwarya Lekshmi doesn’t need to play this role as it lacks vitality.

Technically, the background score by Govind Vasantha, cinematography, and sound mixing need special mention.

The movie belongs to everyone on the team, and what stands out to be the best among them are the vision and proper execution of Gautham Ramachandran.

Overall, Gargi holds your attention throughout the show for its gripping and engrossing screenplay with an unexpected twist in the climax.
