Gangers Movie Review
Following the success of Madha Gaja Raja, director Sundar C is back with his latest outing ‘Gangers’, which features Vadivelu as his co-star. Catherine Tresa and Vani Bhojan are the female lead artistes in this movie.
The story is set in a rural backdrops, where a top girl student in a school goes missing, and the class teach (Catherine Tresa) lodges a complaint. To unravel the truth, a mysterious undercover cop is sent in disguise to find her whereabouts. On the other hand, a couple of local goons are into illicit liquor business, using the school backdrop. Now enters the protagonist (Sundar C) as PT Sir. Over there, he gets acquainted with an underdog PT Teacher (Vadivelu) and there happens to be hilarious chaos. But there’s a mystery revolving around the hero’s character. What’s his intention behind entering the school? What happened to the school girl? This all forms crux of the story
The story starts on ordinary note, and the entire first half really tests our patience. There are no hilarious moments during the first hour despite witnessing the classic Sundar C – Vadivelu combo. Catherine Tresa has some minimal importance. Vani Bhojan’s role is okay. Vadivelu’s comedy tracks don’t work out as before. They are just okay. The other actors, especially villains like Madhusudhan Rao, Mime Gopi and others are nothing special, but fit into the regular Sundar C pattern of villains.
The story takes a shift in pace by the pre-interval point, and the interval twist is quite unexpected. As the story gets into the second half, we do get some interesting moments, especially the unraveling of Sundar C’s character is nice. The climax sequence hits the high note of humour with Sundar C and Vadivelu. The flashback portions are boring and could have been well written.
Technically, the film is poor and it has been the same with almost all the movies of Sundar C, who doesn’t believe in these aspects, but only in savouring the tastes of universal crowds.
Overall, the film has a lazy first half, but picks up the pace during interval and a decent second half.
