Etharkkum Thunindhavan Movie Review
Actor Suriya’s theatrical release after a long hiatus generated huge expectations over this film ‘Etharkkum Thunindhavan’. With Sun Pictures producing the movie, Pandiraj has written and directed this film that features Priyanka Arul Mohan in the female lead role.
When an honest and genuine lawyer (Suriya) comes to know about the gruesome tortures experienced by women in his village, he starts battling against the bunch of miscreants headed by an influential person (Vinay), who has been ruining the lives of innocents. But when his wife (Priyanka Arul Mohan) becomes one of the victims, he has to choose a different way to settle the scores.
Director Pandiraj has always been synonymous with family entertainers, but this time, he attempts something different. The film’s gist is based on the Pollachi issue, and director Pandiraj tries to incorporate entertainment elements into it. Since the main plot involves a heart-wrenching theme; the entertainment value disappears into thin vapor. The only consoling part is the sequence featuring Deva Darshini, Ilavarasu, and Soori during the marriage sequence. Actor Suriya’s performance is so genuine, and he excels in both the romantic and emotional scenes. Priyanka Arul Mohan has done a decent job, and it’s nice to see her in such a homely character. Pandiraj always makes sure of portraying his heroines in the same light, and this movie is no exception. Vinay excels with his screen presence in the negative role. Sathyaraj, Saranya Ponvannan, Devadarshini, Ilavarasu, and others have done their portions well. The comedians Soori, Pugazh, and others fail to impress us.
The musical score by D Imman is decent and appreciable. The songs work out very well with the theatrical experience. With many films being made based on similar social issues, Etharkkum Thunindhavan slightly turns into a hackneyed plot. The first half is brisk and engaging, but the second half slightly gets stretched out.
Overall, Etharkkum Thunindhavan is a decent package, but if you’re planning to watch this film based on Pandiraj’s abundant package of entertainment in the previous movies, this will be a slight disappointment.
