Emakku Thozhil Romance Movie Review

Ashok Selvan’s latest outing ‘Emakku Thozhil Romance’ is directed by Balaji Kesavan. The film features Avantika Mishra in the female lead, and others in the star-cast include Oorvasi, Azhagam Perumal, Baks, Badava Gopi and many others.

The story revolves around a wannabe filmmaker (Ashok Selvan), falling in love with hospital nurse (Avantika). What unfolds next for the couple of hours is the misunderstanding and fun laced with trial and error concept.

Balaji Kesavan has crafted a very simple story that might give an outdated impression now and then. But then, a couple of things help the film from falling into the below-average zone. The first thing being the casting and decent performance followed by few hilarious moments. Ashok Selvan’s charm is appreciable. Avantika Mishra’s character is okay. Urvashi as usual delivers a compelling performance. Bagavathi Perumal’s role is somewhat hilarious. The trial and error comedy in the second half portions are okay.

Technically, there is nothing so special about the film, but the cinematography and BGM are just fine.

On the flip side, the initial moments of the film has nothing to do with the film’s premise. In the name of establishing the protagonist’s professional domain, the first 20 minutes seem to be wasted, and doesn’t evoke humour as well. Moreover, the story slightly gives an outdated impression, but then, the passably hilarious scenes in the second half makes it an average fare.
