Dragon Movie Review
AGS Entertainment’s ‘Dragon’ features Pradeep Ranganathan in the lead role, and is directed by ‘Oh My Kadavule’ fame Aswath Marimuthu. It’s noteworthy that AGS and Pradeep have already streaked a successful spell with ‘Love Today’.
The story begins with collage correspondent (Mysskin) narrating the life of a failure guy D Raghavan (Pradeep Ranganathan), who secured 96% in 12th std, but eventually turned out to be a baddie with 48 arrears in college. His life turns topsy-turvy when his girlfriend (Anupama) breaks up with him after 6 years of relationship for being an utter disappointment and failure in life. Now he hatches a conniving plan to secure a high-level job, and indeed clasps it, but he crashes into his past, where his situation is totally a walk on needle situation, when his buried fraudulent deed is identified by his correspondent. What happens next is a series of fun, and emotional drive leading to an unexpected climax.
Ashwath Marimuthu has carefully dealt with the screenwriting process, where he dedicates first 30 minutes to cater the tastes of teens. In fact, the audiences of that age group would definitely show dislike as those moments are totally cliched, and timeworn stuffs. But his brilliance in blending commercial element to the tale begins by the 40th minute, and the graph keeps spiking up till the end. Especially, the interval point followed by second half is loaded with decent presentation. Ashwath has incorporated the teen elements nicely without missing the direction of story. The last minute twists and turns is appreciable.
Pradeep Ranganathan’s performance during the initial moments might be slightly superficial, but as the character starts getting intense, it gradually eclipses. Anupama Parameswaran’s role is short-lived, but good, Kayadu Lohar is just okay. Sneha’s cameo doesn’t add any elevation. Mysskin’s characterisation is outstanding. Gautham Vasudev Menon and KS Ravikumar are included for namesake, and it’s more like an extended cameo. George Maryan is excellent.
If you’re okay with accepting few logical loopholes, ‘Dragon’ will be a treat to watch for the teens and youngsters.
