Demonte Colony 2 Review

Demonte Colony 2 Movie Review

Director Ajay Gnanamuthu faced a tremendous downfall with his previous outing ‘Cobra’, and his only hope was ‘Demonte Colony 2’, which was reported as a sequel to his hit movie ‘Demonte Colony’. The film features Arulnithi in the lead role with Priya Bhavani Shankar as female lead character. The others in the star-cast include Bigg Boss fame Archana, Meenakshi Govindarajan and few others.

The story is a direct sequel to the first part, where it takes a line from the climax of hero Arulnithi facing a gruesome culmination. But in the second part, it’s revealed that he isn’t dead, but is in coma. Then we come across a young woman (Priya Bhavani Shankar), who is going through inevitable pain of her boyfriend’s death due to cancer. She decides to conjure up his ghost through a Tibetan Exorcist, and during the process, come across the Arulnithi’s soul, who is in coma now. Then, we are introduced to his elder brother (Again played by Arulnithi), who had gone through the same accident of falling down from the building, when his younger brother faced a similar situation. However, he is perfect and healthy, but is in the situation of succumbing to danger. What unfolds next is a chain of events that brings these characters into an uncalled-for thrills and chills with a shocking mystery hidden for centuries.

The writing of Ajay Gnanamuthu stands out to be the greatest showstopper of this film. The way, he has taken scrutinising efforts in giving perfect detail. The entire first half travels with the gripping moments, and the interval twist is appreciable. The second half has some jump scares, especially the scene, where Meenkashi Govindarajan and her friends read the horror book, and get the spooky experience, has been very well visually shown. The hotel sequence involving ‘bats’ could be little tiresome, and they could’ve been tweaked a bit, but this doesn’t hamper the film’s progression. The momentum bounces back to the film’s climax, where the actual mystery is broken.

Arulnithi has done complete justice to his characterisation. The major strength of his characterisation is the seriousness in body language and expressions, and he has emoted very well. Priya Bhavani Shankar might not have something to extraordinary to perform, but she looks perfect for her role. Meenakshi Govindarajan has a little scope, but is okay. Bigg Boss fame Archana’s character looks feeble, and maybe she has some substantiality in the third part. The actor we see in the flashback sequence is extraordinary, and the one as Tibetan Monk is good as well.

The technical department is the biggest attraction, where Sam CS has given a thundering BGM, which raises the eeriness in many places. Not to miss the Sound department, which has given a tremendous impact. The lead to Demonte Colony 3 is convincing as well in the climax.

Overall, ‘Demonte Colony 2’ has a slew of jump scares and interesting plot that will keep you engaged in many places.
