Deepavali Bonus Movie Review
It’s quite a rare scenario to see a film industry making festival based movies. The Culture of Christmas releases remains as a ritual practice in Hollywood, whereas, India being the largest production of films annually has missed to score the brownie points here. It’s interesting to see that debut filmmaker Jeyabal has come up with a small, beautiful content-driven movie titled ‘Deepavali Bonus’, which revolves around an emotional concept of an ordinary middle class family, which can celebrate the festive occasion only with the availing of Deepavali bonus they receive from workplace. This Diwali, they have an issue pertaining to it and what unfolds next is something totally unexpected.
Both the lead actors Vikranth and Rithvika are perfectly cast, and they have delivered a ne plus ultra performance without any flaws. The writing is neat when it comes to establishing the story premise and the characters. There is no unwanted song or sequences, but we are commuted straight to the world of this family with a kid being their only joy despite the financial constraints.
What makes Deepavali Bonus click in few places is that the realistic elements that audience can connect with. Especially, the day-to-day challenges in nourishing the family life. The running length of the film being perfect works out best results for this film.
Although the film is emotionally good and narratively neat, they lack the technical aspects. The making could have been little better, especially with the cinematography, but the production designing is worthy of appreciations. But that doesn’t hamper the film’s impact anywhere, and Deepavali Bonus is a good quality film that can be watched without any hesitation.
