Bairvaa is all about the politics played by the private medical college for medical seat allocations, and its impact to the student’s life. How hero fights against this group frames the plot. Film ’s theme is based on true incidents which happened in Tamil Nadu.
Ilayathalapathy Vijay looks super smart even with that wig, somehow we are used to this look after seeing posters trailer and teaser. So it doesn’t harm much. The effort which he took for the coin flip and the action sequences are tremendous. Ilayathalapathy Vijay screen presence is the main key factor which helps us enjoy the film.
Keerthy’s attempt to speak in Tirunelveli accent should be appreciated.
Keerthy Suresh keeps on improving her acting skills and expressions in each film. Story revolves around her, which gives more scope to perform and she did pretty well. Vijay – Keerthy pair looks fresh and lovely. Keerthy’s attempt to speak in Tirunelveli accent should be appreciated.
Film has a huge star cast includes Jagabathy Babu, Daniel Balaji, Sija Rose, Aparna Vinod, Harish Uthaman, Sathish, Motta Rajendiran, Thambi Ramayyah, Vijayaraghavan, Y G Mahendiran, Mime Gopi, Naren etc. The one who shines better is Daniel Balaji, he has given a very good performance. Sathish’s one liners didn’t click well. Motta Rajendiran scenes are totally forced into the script.
Music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan. His first collaboration with Vijay. The ‘Bairava’ theme is a killer, along with the action sequence its an immense treat to watch. Credits to Vairamuthu for the wonderful Lyrics of the introduction song ‘Pattaya kelappu’. Melody song ‘Nillayo’ stays in mind. ‘Azhagiya soodana’ song is totally unwanted one. ‘Pa Pa’ song choreo is good.
Cinematography by Sukumar needs a special mention, the color tone he used is apt. Fights scenes are made well. Dance choreography by Dinesh fails. Choreographers should make use of a better dancer like Vijay by at least giving some fast or graceful dance steps. Art direction work is clumsy- the sets are clearly visible in most scenes. Film length is 168min, second half needs some edit.
Directed by Bharathan, his second outing with Vijay after ‘ATM’. He has come up with good social message oriented script. But the screenplay is very old, predictable and stereotypic. Script has no added unique factors. Dialogues are good. Comedy scenes didn’t work out. First half tooks a while to pick up, followed by a good flashback and ends up with a massive interval block. Second half falls flat with template scenes between hero and villain, which is a let down.
Highlights of the film are – Vijay’s screen presence, style, action sequences, interval mass fight scene, court scene, Bairavaa theme music, social content and flashback portion. Length & songs are major drawbacks. Overall it is an out and out commercial flick which can be watchable with family for this Pongal festive season.
