Now a days horror films lose their originality by making fun of it. A typical horror films have their own effect that leave you at the edge of the seat with nail biting moments even when a comedy track is there in the film. Even they show little about the ghost or something and thereby it provides you a thrill and tension until the climax. Now, those eras are gone and making comedy with horror and sometimes glamour too which irritates most audience though the comedy impresses a bit here and there. In that phase, Aranmanai has gone one extra step that it went to 90’s era of bringing back Amman films with modern day elements.
Only relief in the film is Santhanam punch here & there, and Kovai Sarala & Mano Bala gang at few places. Despite that, there is nothing BIG in Aranmanai except the BIG palace.
SundarC has delivered lot of super hit films and his films will be mostly comic as it is his style of making and it comes just like that for him. Now he did a experimental by dipping his hand on horror side and if anyone goes, sundar will do something differently in that, then at the end, only disappointment remains even though his usual comic presents in the film.
Biggest hole in this flick is story and the way he present it in terms of screen play & narration. Another big hole is length of the movie and first half really test the patience of the audience. Main essence of the horror lies in the sound effects and this one lags far behind and the songs too below average.
Hansika and Andrea did their role perfectly and they have more scope to perform and they used it well too. Lakshmi rai just a show toy. Vinay odd man out to say at least.
On the whole, sundar instead of believing his script what he going to present, he just fix mind only on the star cast & comedy that ends up like though every aspect of sundar c’s film elements presents, it lacks in the main theme. This film only for those who didn’t see a Tamil comedy-horror ever.
