Abraham Ozler Movie Review
Abraham Ozler garnered a lot of attention due to several noteworthy aspects. Firstly, Jayaram’s new-dimensional appearance captivated us, along with the renowned director Mithun Manuel Thomas, who has impressed us with his exceptional thrillers.
Director Mithun Manuel Thomas, known for his classy narrative style, showcased his brilliance in his magnum opus film ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’, which became a tremendous treat for OTT lovers during the pandemic season. Naturally, this raised our expectations for ‘Abraham Ozler’, only to leave us disappointed after watching it in theaters. The trend of ‘mystery-thrillers’ with protagonists and cops delving into murder investigations while grappling with personal losses has become a cliché in the Indian film industry. This formula has been frequently witnessed across various industries, making the audience predict the next moves and ultimately diminishing the thrill. Unfortunately, Abraham Ozler falls into this category, starting off promisingly but losing its momentum and impact as the story progresses.
Investigation thrillers have started to rely on stereotypical character descriptions, where the protagonist is accompanied by supporting characters who merely fill in the gaps to enhance the narrative. However, this movie fails to effectively utilize actors Arya Salim and Senthil Krishna, who are undoubtedly talented but lack well-developed characters. On the other hand, Jayaram steals the show with his performance, despite the character having its ups and downs. Known for his softer roles, the actor surprises us with his fresh and innovative portrayal. Additionally, the movie includes a spoiler element in the form of a cameo appearance by a superstar.
From a technical standpoint, the cinematography by Theni Eswar stands out as the film’s biggest asset. Eswar attempts to break away from the conventional visual patterns often seen in mystery-thrillers. The background music could have been better, and the editing is satisfactory.
Although there are some positive aspects to Abraham Ozler, it ultimately falls short of meeting the high expectations set by its predecessors.
