Yaavarum Nalam sequel based on Japanese film Yogen?
It looks like lots of sequels, especially for the horror movies are on cards now. While Raghava Lawrence has scored a hat-trick with his ‘Kanchana’ franchise over three installments, Sundar C managed to offer couple of outings in ‘Aranmanai’ and lots more is adding up. But it has been a long time desire for the horror film buffs to see if there could be a sequel to ‘Yaavarum Nalam’, which was indeed a trendsetter in the pages of Tamil cinema. The film starring Madhavan and Neetu Chandra in lead roles, directed by Vikram Kumar was such an amazing film that garnered tremendous response.
In fact, Hollywood’s Weinstein Company has already acquired the International remake rights of this film. While the duo Vikram-Madhavan had affirmed there would be a sequel in accordance to the open ending climax, it was later on discussion levels, where the inside sources revealed that it is loosely based on the Japanese horror film ‘Yogen’, titled as ‘Premonition’ in English.
While the first part had ghosts interacting through a TV box, this film would have ‘Newspaper’ as the medium of communication between the protagonist and ghost.
Nevertheless, the sources remain closemouthed on other end, where they aren’t revealing anything on this.
Right now, Vikram Kumar is busy wrapping up with the post-production works of ‘24’ starring Suriya, Samantha and Nithya Menen in lead roles, which is scheduled for release in May.
