Vijay’s Kaththi which opened with Tuesday evening premier shows in US in a record 105 screens for a Tamil movie has created a new Box office record. Directed by A.R.Murugadoss and featuring Ilayathalapathy in dual roles the film is doing great business in US Box office and is well on its way to be the number 1 grosser of this year 2014. By Saturday, it has collected $511K at the US Box office. This is the highest for a non-Rajini, non-Kamal Tamil movie.

Kaththi is also the first time a non-Rajini, non-Kamal movie breaching the coveted half a million mark. Kochadaiiyaan with its $635K haul is the 2014’s highest Tamil grosser in US. Kaththi by Sunday or Monday is expected to overtake Kochadaiiyaan to become 2014’s highest Tamil grosser in US. This will also put Kaththi in all-time Top 5 in US after Endhiran, Vishwaroopam, Sivaji and Dasavathram. Kaththi is sure setting the overseas box office on fire.Kaththi is now #6 all time grosser and #2 in 2014 among tamil films released in USA.
