Interview with Karthi about Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru
Actor Karthi has been so much vigorous when he gets to talk something about his upcoming film Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru. Of course, he has been confident with all his movies and he never misses to add the best things about his movies. We would often see his researching mentality in any character or script he handles or takes up. He is someone beyond an avatar called ‘Actor’. This has been the highlighting trait of Karthi and he is here keeping fingers crossed about his upcoming film that traces through the chronicles a police officer.
It is not just Tamil cinema, but the cop movies in any regional languages have showcased good, bad and ugly side of cop. The classifications cannot get beyond these paradigms. So how about the characterization of ‘Theeran’ and he falls into which category?
Karthi takes a smile saying, “We all grew up with certain assumptions and perception about police and police department. We often see them as super aliens from other planets and super heroes. But they are so normal and ordinary with their lifestyle. They are none other than someone like our own brothers who became police officers. What urged or influenced them to become a cop turns them into certain shades. There happens to be a well known person to me who wanted to become a professor, but had to take up police job to fulfil his father’s desire and wrote Group 1 examination. He would tell me that there were many situations in his life, where he would see wrongdoings and get so much angry, but had no courage to raise the voice. But being a cop made him to take situation into his hands. So will be the characterization of Theeran, who goes through ordinary and routine life, but a certain a case changes his course of life.”
Getting to emphasize more on an incident much significant to this, Karthi adds, “There was one particular file that I had read and wanted to meet the police officer, who handled the case. If you would see him in person, you will assume him to be a bank manager and you wouldn’t believe that he is an encounter specialist. Theeran will be one such character showcasing a realistic touch of a cop.”
The ‘Theeran’ actor adds that police in reality are far away from how it is depicted in movies. They don’t even touch high pitch tone and their verbal conversations are too low. Such things have been noticed and made use of this in this movie. Police officers don’t face issues from criminals alone, but pressures occur from department as well. So how they tackle and push their mission is all about their potentials.
When it comes to criticisms, police department and politicians become the front face. How does Karthi see this? “We just see few things and assume it to be the entire picture. We are given salary for 9-5 job, but police have to work throughout the day and year without break. They don’t have a single holiday to enjoy with their family. Anybody like me and you wouldn’t prefer such a job that is meant to be more crucial and challenging. Then how can they be criticized generally,” says Karthi.
What’s the significance behind the title ‘Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru’? “Theeran is completely Tamil and it has a pride involved when we utter it right. The idea about ‘Adhigaaram Ondru’ was suggested by the director as he felt that in case of this film getting huge reception, we can continue with future instalments.”
