The season of horror genres are brimming up the theatres incessantly. Well, most of the horror based movies travel strongly on the lines of Alfred Hitchcock’s motto ‘Drama begins when Logic ends’. Of course, our filmmakers have strongly got themselves confined to these aspects, but then there are few commonalities or indeed the stereotypical factors, where the protagonists in almost all the Tamil horror movies don’t have a parent. Either their father or mother would have passed away or even sometimes orphans… This week horror movie release ‘Sangili Bungili Kathava Thorae’ has a similar shade, where we find Jiiva is having only his mother (Radhika Sarathkumar) and even tell hers that it’s a dream come true for them to have this house. There are few such instances in Tamil cinema and we bring you some of the illustrations.
Raghava Lawrence in Kanchana and Kanchana 2
In both these movies of this franchise, we happened to see that Raghava Lawrence only had his widowed mother Kovai Sarala accompanying him into the horripilating situations. The first part of Muni had late actor Vinu Chakravarthy as his father, but the other installments didn’t have his characterization displayed and he was found only in framed photo with garland as token of respect to the deceased persons.
Madhavan in Yaavarum Nalam
This movie was indeed the first of all new fangled horror movies set against the backdrops of this concept. Saranya Ponvannan plays his widowed mother and there are few instances. She is unaware about the horrifying experiences of her son, but yet remains supportive.
Nayantara in Dora
This was the latest horror movie that occurred bigger on the silver screens. Over here, we find her being raised by widowed father (played by Thambi Ramaiah). Although, his role was completely used for funny elements, he plays a responsible one throughout the show caring for his daughter.
Ashok Selvan in Pizza II – The Villa
The film had lots relevancy between the ‘Horror’ and ‘Father’ elements in this film. This was precisely because of the fact that protagonist’s father (Nasser) holds the ultimate key to the mystery behind the paranormal activities in the home.
Raghava Lawrence in Shivalinga
Well, there isn’t much connectivity between the protagonist’s father or parents with the film’s basic premise. But here we find Raghava Lawrence has no father here and only his mother is seen. The makers hadn’t clearly established the fact of whether she is a widow or her husband is out there somewhere else.
