Yennanga Sir Unga Sattam Movie Review

Passion Studios that has been producing movies stretching between the graph of mediocre and middling stature (Seethakathi and Annabelle Sethupathi) arrives with its latest outing titled ‘Yennanga Sir Unga Sattam’. The movie is directed by Prabhu Jeyaram with RS Karthik playing the lead character with Rohini and Junior Balaiah appearing in important characters.

The first and second half of the movie delves into two different plots, which are conveyed as two different scripts written by the protagonist (RS Karthik). The first one is about a devil-may-care youngster, who falls in love with girls from every religion with all of them ending up with bitter breakups only to marry the girl of his caste through the arrangement of parents. Well, the second plot is about some of the individuals from certain caste make use of reservations in many positions allotted by Government, which directly or indirectly hampers the merit and hard work of people from the certain upper cadre.

To be honest, the first half leaves you no option but to skip the scenes (Thanks for the OTT release or else we would have been confined inside the theaters without this option). However, as the film enters the second hour, the plot looks promising as director Prabhu Jeyaram handles a serious subject that prevails amidst us. Although the second half is quite appreciable, the first hour really tests our patience. By the end of show, we get the point clear that Prabhu Jeyaram has written two short stories and maybe the producers wanted to try something creative and club them together. If we are going to pass on the verdict that ‘Watch it for the second half’, then it wouldn’t make sense. If the director had taken the second story as the main premise and handled it as full-length movie, we could have then analyzed his potential. For now, it’s just a couple of short films (a distant relative to ‘Anthology’) that works out only with the second one.

When it comes to performances, RS Karthik, Rohini and Junior Balaiah alongside other actors have done a good job.

On the whole, the title Yennanga Sir Unga Sattam remains honest to the second story (Post-intermission), and watching two different short films in the name of full-length feature movie isn’t something appreciable.

Kudos to filmmaker Prabhu for the second half, but the first half attempt is terribly disappointing.
