Veera Dheera Sooran 2 Movie Review

Chiyaan Vikram’s performances in all his movies have been beyond the usual paradigms, where his hard work and dedication has no contender on the other end. Unfortunately, his movies despite claiming critical acclaims, failed to create a commercial impact. The expectations gradually peaked with the visual promos and pre-release buzz of Veera Dheera Sooran Part 2, directed by S.U Arun Kumar (Chitha, Sethupathi and Pannaiyarum Padminiyum fame).

The film’s plot is simple. The story begins during a night time, where a police officer (SJ Suryah) plants an encounter attempt against his long time enemy (Sooraj Venjaramudu) and his father. With no options left to save his son, the father approaches Kaali (Chiyaan Vikram), who is unnecessarily dragged into the scenario. What unfolds during the night time is a game between the good, bad and the ugly dimensions of these characters.

Chiyaan Vikram’s fans have been curiously waiting for his mass comeback, and this one satisfies them, in fact the family audiences to a greater extent. The story begins right from the first scene, and doesn’t get diverted anywhere. The film has an ordinary plot, but still the treatment keeps it going strong. The first half builds the tension, and then the intermission point leaves us little garbled (Maybe director’s cut was purposely inserted). But the flashback mass moment sends Goosebump for the fans. The second half, however, needs a trimming.

G.V. Prakash’s BGM is good, but in most of the places look repeated. Theni Eswar’s camera work needs special mention. He has captured the night-festival ambience naturally without any flashiness.

If you’re looking out for the minus points, the second half is slightly overstretched, a bit of trimming would have kept it on par with Kaithi.

Overall, it’s a greater comeback for actor Vikram, who has been struggling to clasp back his lost commercial zone nearly for 18 years after Anniyan.
