Varunan Movie Review
If you’re keenly looking out for the term ‘Varunan’, it’s nothing but the ‘Name of Water God’. Well, with such a significant title, anyone would have envisaged this movie to be an International standard flick with conflicts and water. However, this story has nothing to do deal with such instances, and instead, it goes the routine tug of war between two business heads involved in the local water can business.
Varunan marks the directorial venture of Jayavel Murugan and the story is set against the backdrops of North Chennai, where domestic water suppliers are engaged in establishing their territory. The story is about two groups – Ayyavu (Radharavi) assisted by Thillai (Dushyanth Jayaprakash) and Marudhu (Priyadarshan). On the other end, it’s conniving baddie named John (Charanraj), his wife (Maheshwari) and brother (Shankar).
Apparently, just like predicted, the story proceeds with the terrirotiral clash between them, which is accompanied by backstabbing and evil moments, concluding with a predictable ending.
As with performance Dushyanth looks good, and Gabriella has nothing much to perform. Radharavi as usual takes a cakewalk with his decent spell, and Charan Raj as baddie is convincing.
With a proper screenplay and promising presentation, the film would have been a decent package, but then, the film lacks it all, thereby making it a below average fare.
