Mazaka Movie Review

Sundeep Kishan’s 30th film ‘Mazaka’ is directed by Trinadha Rao Nakkina. Rao Ramesh, Ajay, Anshu, Ritu Varma and Aadhi are part of the star-cast, which features musical score by Leon James.

The story revolves around an aged man Venkata Ramana (Rao Ramesh), a widower leading a simple life with his son Krishna (Sundeep Kishan). His attempts to get a good life partner for son is consistently failing as the families aren’t willing to get their daughters married to a family that doesn’t have a woman. With no options left, the father decides to get married again so that his son’s hurdles would be cleared, and falls in love with Yashoda (Anshu). But she rejects his proposal, and is all set to leave the country. On the other hand, Krishna falls in love with a college student Meera (Ritu Varma). After much attempts, both father and son win the approval of their ladies to get hitched, but things break loose out of hell, when they face an uncalled-for complication.

Sundeep Kishan has always been a decent performer, whose graph neither spikes nor steeps down. He has delivered a casual performance, and scores good with emotional scenes. Rao Ramesh looks totally irrelevant for the role, and his combination with Anshu is dissatisfying. Anshu has done justice to her role, and Ritu Varma is just okay. Murali Sharma, as usual, gives a commendable spell. Aadhi’s hilarious attempts are a total disaster.

It looks like the era of Leon James has struck the right meter. After delivering a laudable Tamil album ‘Dragon’, he has now composed a couple of amazing tracks ‘Baby Ma’ and ‘Somasillu Pothunave’. Cinematography is appreciable.

The primary problem with Mazaka is that it doesn’t work out in many places. Despite the attempts to tickle the funny bones, it keeps failing to resonate well. Maybe, a much more fine-tuned screenplay and involvement from writers would have made it appealing.

The only appreciable sequences are the pre-interval twist, the emotional climax moment and few hilarious moments. What turns out to be a major disappointment is the fallible writing that is too normal, and Rao Ramesh’s romantic episodes with Anshu. Besides the comedy episodes by Aadhi are total annoyance.

The film badly needs a trimming to retain its theatrical run or else it would end up as a below average time pass movie.
