Vidaamuyarchi Movie Review
Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi directed by Magizh Thirumeni is an adaptation of Hollywood movie ‘Breakdown’, where an additional sub-plot of an emotional drama between a married couple is encapsulated.
The film begins with a journey of married couple (Ajith Kumar & Trisha), who embark on a 9-Hour road trip to the latter’s parents house. Kayal (Trisha) is all set to break her 12-year marriage with divorce as she is having an affair with another man. Without any questions, Arjun (Ajith Kumar) accepts to grant as per her wish, and both head for one for last journey, where a bunch of strangers kidnap Kayal and take Arjun for a turbulent journey.
What happened to Kayal? Who are these people? The story unfolds with so many twists and turns.
Director Magizh Thirumeni, who is illustrious for making neat thrillers has come up with a decent presentation by stylishly showcasing his actors. The first half indeed has gripping moments, and we are kept intact with the proceeding. However, the problem begins in second half, where there seems to be few confusions. Say for instance, the antagonists have an intention and that’s it. So what’s the point of bringing up their flashbacks, which in no way, has any link to Arjun and Trisha. Similarly, when the audiences, who patiently waited for the volatile eruption of hero are offered a perfect treat, they are yet again letdown with the tempo falling back to the dramatic conversations. If a bit of tweaking was done in the last 40 minutes, it would have been a classy crisp action-adventure flick.
Anirudh is the real showstopper in this movie. His BGM makes even the passable shows look promising. Cinematography by Om Prakash is yet another embellishment to the movie.
When it comes to performances, everyone has carried out an impeccable performance. It’s amazing to see Ajith Kumar step out of the comfort zone, and deliver something exceptionally mind-blowing. He represents an ordinary middle class man, and reflects those aspects naturally, without flexing his muscles as in masala movies. Trisha gives a decent performance. Arjun and Regina Cassandra excel with their perfect acting.
On the whole, Vidaamuyarchi would have been an excellent movie, if there were some alterations in the screenplay, and the runtime was reduced from 150mins to 120 minutes.
