Nesippaya Movie Review
Director Vishnuvardhan’s latest outing ‘Nesippaya’ features Akash Murali and Aditi Shankar in the lead roles with an ensemble star-cast of Kalki Koechlin, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Khushboo, Raja and others. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed music Cameron has handled cinematography.
After breakup, Aditi Shankar moves to Portugal only to get imprisoned for the death of her boss’ son. Her ex-boyfriend (Akash Murali), who is still in love with her. What unfolds next is his attempt to unravel the mystery behind this murder and find out who the real killer is.
Vishnuvardhan’s clarity is always been appreciable irrespective of genres he picks. It’s great to see that he has made a total shift after his blockbuster Hindi hit movie ‘Shershah’ with a bunch of young actors. His choice of other actors are also great. Kalki Koechlin is the surprise attraction in this film. Although the film keeps the tense at right momentum, the hilarious encounters between Kalki and Akash has been nicely written. The first half doesn’t have any riveting moments, and it keeps revolving around the egoistic clash between the couple. Well, it is in now way relevant to the second half, where the actual drama is set. In fact, the entire second half keeps us engrossed without any distractions. The last 20 minutes and climax twists are extraordinary.
Musical score by Yuvan Shankar Raja is pleasant though they are not chartbuster materials. Cinematography is the biggest strength and the Portugal locales are nicely shot.
Akash Murali looks tailor-made for the role, and Aditi Shankar too suits the role. But what’s so intriguing about the film is the supporting star-cast like Kalki, Khushboo, Sarath Kumar and Raja, who have more prominence.
On the whole, ‘Nesippaya’ has some fluctuations during the initial moments, but gradually manages to hold us engrossed ins any places.
Verdict: Riveting in parts and watchable
