Super Deluxe Movie Review

Thiyagarajan Kumararaja carries a charm of his own formulae, where even the ones who aren’t able to perceive his mentality try to take a leap into his terrain. Well, his endeavouring attempts in bringing up blunt and bold dialogues with some stark realities of sexuality and profanity might have been the foremost attraction as in ‘Aaranya Kaandam’. Well, ‘Super Deluxe’ offers them in plethora and in addition, the other common elements are the ‘Emotional drench’. Traversing through the incidents that occurs in the lives of few characters in a span of 24 hours is what the entire film all about.

There’s a dialogue by the end of film, where various characters embellish the beauty of life beyond all such ugly dualities. An innocuous son and bold mother, who accept and support their family head, A disastrous infidelity between the couple that ends with compatibility, a ferocious son of a porn artiste and her overnight over believer of Christ, bunch of adolescent chaps getting through unheralded whimsical moments. Watch out for the dialogue, where it all says, “It’s all based on the eyes of beholder of how you see a person”, “Just as cells in your body think they are individuals, so are we,” “Should I give up faith on God or believe him for this unbelievable miracle” and many such lines. “I break the traffic signal rules and I have to pay fine. If traffic signals don’t work, will they pay us fine?’ and “When my account runs short off little balance, banks charge me penalty charges, would they pay us same when ATMs run out of money.” These dialogues incessantly keep winning our applause. The characterizations too evoke an impeccable attention towards the film.

The first hour of Super Deluxe is so much engrossing, where we don’t find those 90 minutes of show has passed. Nevertheless, the second hour looks elongated. We don’t mean to say that few scenes should have been deleted for every scene is important. Instead, certain things could have been trimmed. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s BGM is unparalleled and is best in several places. Every frame is enriched with incredible colours and the credits go to several cinematographers who have been a part of this film including P.C. Sriram, P.S Vinod, etc.

Overall, Super Deluxe has its own setting and pace, where elite club miniscule audiences in favour of avant-garde filmmakers’ showpieces would enjoy it.
