Madras Talkies clarifies on Kaatru Veliyidai copycat issue
Manirathinam had recently directed a film Kaatru Veliyidai which had Karthi and Athithi Rao in the lead roles. This film was released last Friday. Of all the Manirathinam’s films, Kaatru Veliyidai attracted lots of mixed reviews. At the same time, there were also some negative remarks regarding this film.
At this juncture, there is news in the social media that this film is absolute copy of the Korea TV Serial Descendants of the Sun. The hero of this serial is an army personnel. The heroine is the doctor. There is clashes and romance between the two. So there is a view that there are similarities between the serial and the film Kaatru Veliyidai.
In view of this, an explanatory press release was release by the crew. The release states, “The film is about an incident that happened in 1971. In the year 1971, Dilip Parulkar who was a Flight Lieutenant’s plane was shot in Pakistan and was imprisoned in Rawalpindi. In the year 1972, he along with two prisoners escapes. This true incident was taken from the book Four miles to Freedom written by Faith Jonhston. Apart from this, there is no connection between the film and the serial.
