Iravukku Aayiram Kangal Movie Review

Arulnithi has always had an affinity for unconventional genres, which we have witnessed with his list of movies. He goes for ‘Thriller’ that is laced with mystery and suspense in Iravukku Aayiram Kangal. The film is directed by Mu Maran and is produced by Axess Film Factory starring Mahima Nambiar, Ajmal, Lakshmi Ramakrishnan, John Vijay, Anand Raj and Chaya Singh in important roles.

Arulnithi plays a cab driver while Mahima Nambiar happens to be a home nurse. Both of them are in relationship until the latter encounters Ajmal, who saves her from the clutches of miscreants. Just as she feels that he is a good man, he starts troubling her. On an unexpected turn, both Arulnithi and Mahima come across Chaya Singh, who is on the verge of ending her life. On saving, she reveals that Ajmal has misused her innocence and is blackmailing her. Arulnithi decides to seek revenge and set free these women from his clutches. But he is pitted by situations, when he finds Ajmal’s team member (Suja Varunee) found dead at his place.

Non-linear screenplay has both minus and plus. It offers a newfangled narration to the audiences, but it might get resented by rural and sub-urban audiences if not presented properly. But Mu Maran has taken scrutinising efforts to make sure that audiences’ attention are not scattered anywhere. But there are few drawbacks as the same incident narrated from different perspectives might get you bored. On the same extent, Arulnithi’s chase for unveiling truth could have been trimmed as it turns out to be dragging.

When it comes to performance, Arulnithi nails down the role as cab driver with perfection. He gives his naturalistic approach to the tale. Mahima Nambiar on her part looks so beautiful and has performed what is required for the role. Anand Raj evokes laughter and his portions are the real relief to the stressed screenplay. Ajmal scores big points with an impeccable performance. He is here to rule Kollywood with some powerful performances and that is very well proved here. Chaya Singh has done a good job. John Vijay as a psychotic husband gets his role very well conveyed.

Sam CS has exerted his inmost effort into the background score and it works out best for screenplay’s raciness. Cinematographer Arvind Singh deserves special mention for capturing the night visuals with brilliance.

On the whole, Iravukku Aayiram Kangal has the best treat for thriller lovers, where the screenplay gives an experience of reading a crime novel.
