Indian cinema has completed a glorious 100 years. As a celebration of this remarkable moment and as a humble tribute to this magnificent journey, an exhibition called ‘ FLASHBACK’ is being put together for the first time by the enthusiastic students of the Department of Visual Communication, Ethiraj College for Women and the Department of Media Sciences, Anna University.
They are organising this exhibition under the guidance of Director Venky. AL and with the support of Magic Media Works. ‘FLASHBACK’ will attempt to showcase and document the dynamic and protean growth of Cinema, World Cinema, Indian Cinema and South Indian Cinema. 250 students are working on the research and gathering of authentic information for this exhibition. They have been interviewing legendary directors, producers and artistes and gathering vital information. Reputed organisations and production houses like AVM and L.V.Prasad have magnanimously come forward to lend their archival materials and traditional equipment for display at the exhibition.
This exhibition is going to be held at Anna University from December 15th to 21st, 2013 and will be inaugurated on December 14th,2013. This exhibition will display rare photographs, unusual facts and archival information, miniatures of sets, cut outs, posters and equipment. Puppet shows and leather puppet shows which relate the history of cinema will also be performed at the exhibition.
There will be a Tent talkies which was the original mode of exhibition for cinema which will play archival clippings and significant file shots of Indian cinema. The ever popular sets, such as the Court set in the film ‘Parasakthi’ will be re-created and the viewing public can have themselves photographed on these sets. Every evening there will be talks by connoisseurs on cinema. This exhibition will enable the general public and students to understand and appreciate the significant contributions made by legendary artistes, directors, producers and other creative artistes and technicians to the tremendous growth of cinema.
A group of 100 artists called “Chennai Weekend Artists” will participate in this exhibition and sketch , paint and display key scenes from milestone films. This exhibition “FLASHBACK” is a very humble tribute by the student community to celebrate and venerate the glory of cinema.
