The story revolves around a cot that has been preserved as a traditional object in a family for over 250 years for three generations. The teak wood was brought to the village of Tamil Nadu from Burma and this cot, made by professional craftsmen, is loved by many in the Ganeshan family. Ganeshan's parents and his grandparents are very emotionally attached to this cot. Ganeshan, his mother Saraswati, wife Thanalekshmi and son Suresh (boy) have loved this cot for the rest of their lives. If you look at the cot as an object, this cot will seem to be an insignificant non living object only. Whereas, if you see through your inner soul, it will reflect as a living thing. The screenplay is based on the Ganeshan family’s struggle to recover the cot when it is lost due to their cash crunch environment. The purpose of this work is to tell the world about the value of antiquities which can be considered as a cultural symbol of India. It is also said here of people who are in primitive thought of making money only and ignore the native identity. Born into a family tradition where Ganeshan lived, the strength of this story lies in moving away from the caste feeling and towards the reality of life. Kattil (cot) beautifully portrays the Indian tradition and its dignity.
