Bagheera Movie Review

Filmmaker Adhik Ravichandran of ‘Trisha Illana Nayanthara’ fame and ‘AAA’ is back with yet another whacky entertainer titled ‘Bagheera’, starring Prabhu Deva in the lead character. The film has an ensemble star cast comprising Amyra Dastur, Gayathri, Janani Iyer, Yashika Anand, Sakshi Agarwal, Ramya Nambeesan and others.

The film is about a serial killer named Bagheera (Prabhu Deva), who in the different names keep killing the women, who cheat their boyfriends in the name of love and relationship. As the police department begins the investigation, he has already decided to hunt down the latest prey in his list (Amyra Dastur), only to get knocked and shocked by a surprise at end.

Bagheera has the equal proportion of plus and minus. Starting off with the positive, it’s all about Prabhu Deva. It’s been a long time, we saw Prabhu Deva getting indulged in tremendous performance. Although he is an excellent actor, his second innings in Kollywood has been a mere mediocre. In this film, we see that Adhik Ravichandran has extracted a lot from him. The other major positive is Adhik’s ability to keep the teen groups inclined to the show by choosing a current relationship issue as the backdrop. There are dialogues that will definitely win their applause. Of course, he had already done the same in his previous movies.

Now getting on with the minus, the film’s screenplay, which has a non-linear narration goes totally into a mess mode. He has tried to telling the story in his style, which might confuse, and at times, fails to settle us into the world of Bagheera. The screenwriting and editing gets smoother only in the second half, and it looks, lots of last minute changes in the name of modifications have ruined the show.

The other actors in the movie have nothing to perform. All the heroines except Amyra Dastur hardly have a screen time not more than 5-10 minutes. Adhik Ravichandran has tried capturing the youngsters, by roping in all the VJs and YouTube artistes, but then, it doesn’t work out to a greater extent.

On the whole, Bagheera can be considered as Prabhu Deva’s decent show in the recent times, but then, the technical and narrative aspects make the film little jarring here and there.
