Kanam Movie Review

Actor Sharwanand, who was seen in Tamil movies like Engeyum Eppodhum, JK Enum Nanbanin Vaazhkai makes his comeback in Tamil movie industry with ‘Kanam’. The film is directed by Shreekarthick and is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures. There were a couple of classifications in Tamil cinema, when it comes to time-travel based movies. One with revenge seeking tales and another touching the lines of human emotions among which the latter has worked better results… Kanam belongs to the latter category that comes up with a beautiful line encompassing emotions.

The story revolves around three childhood friends Adi (Sharwanand) and others (Sathish and Ramesh Thilak). Adi is a talented singer, but has an issue getting stuck while performing in front of crowds. The issue dates back to his childhood trauma after losing his mother in an accident. While he struggles to cope up with the problems, he comes across a scientist (Nasser), who had attempted time-travel several times, to rectify one bitter past moment and failed severely. He now gives a chance to Adi to travel back in time and save his mother from accident if he can help him change his past as well as a return favour. Adi accepts and together with his friends travels back in time, and attempts to save his mother, but doesn’t expect an uncalled-for twist in tale.

It is evident that ShreeKarthick has written a tale with deepest emotions as the core value. It does work out good results throughout the movie. He has attempted humour through the characters played by Sathish and Ramesh Thilak as well. The initial moments of the movie might give a sluggish impact, but with the arrival of Amala, we are exposed to good engrossing moments. The interval twist is something that one might have not expected for. The post-interval scenes too are engaging.

The right casting of actors is one of the praiseworthy elements in the movie. The musical score doesn’t have such an impact on the film, but they are neither disappointing. Cinematography is major plus and the VFX works are properly done.

On the whole, Kanam is a feel-good and engrossing piece of work that deserves a watch.
